Images in organic search results.<\/strong> Google has blended organic search results with image search for years, and the trend is growing. According to Mozcast, 44% of SERPs contain images.<\/p>\n<p>Images appear in search results when a query implies an interest in visuals, even for commercial-intent searches.<\/p>\n<p>An image on a product page with structured data markup will show in both image search results and general search. Images in search snippets. <\/strong>Google included images in mobile search snippets first. Google&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/appearance\/structured-data\/carousel\">guidelines<\/a> for that markup are confusing, seemingly implying that they apply only to courses, recipes, restaurants, and movies. In reality, ItemList can be used for any list, including products.<\/p>\n<p>Google can often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/seo-drive-clicks-with-video-rich-snippets\">discern<\/a> that a page without structured data contains a list. Google then generates multi-image search-result snippets. Yet implementing Schema.org cannot hurt \u2014 I&#8217;ve seen it generate visual snippets. So it is definitely a good idea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Images in featured snippets. <\/strong>The benefits of appearing in a featured snippet are now debatable since Google &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/seo-impact-of-googles-deduplicate-algorithm\">deduplicated<\/a>&#8221; featured and organic snippets. A page 1 listing can appear in a featured or standard snippet \u2014 but not both. I&#8217;ve seen no reliable click data comparing the two.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, an image in a featured snippet is one of the few methods to increase its visibility and, presumably, clicks.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, consider adding a relevant image beside the paragraph Google uses for your featured snippet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Branded images can create the right first impression in Google&#8217;s SERPs for your company&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<h3>Image Search<\/h3>\n<p>Optimizing for Image search is important because, in most cases, Google pulls from that section to show in carousels and knowledge panels. Image SEO also directs Google to the most relevant choice to include in featured or visual snippets.<\/p>\n<p>Google offers an extensive <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/appearance\/google-images\">guide<\/a> on how to optimize images for search. The recommendations include using (i) clear versions, not blurry, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/how-to-make-images-load-faster\">load quickly<\/a>, (ii) meaningful file names, (iii) descriptive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/6-accessibility-basics-cause-97-of-errors\">alt text<\/a>, and (iv) relevant surrounding text.
