The \u201cMonthly Wholesale Trade\u201d survey includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/category\/management\/b2b\">B2B<\/a> merchants, distributors, exporters, and importers but excludes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/charts-u-s-manufacturing-trends\">manufacturers<\/a>, refiners, and miners selling their own products.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Census Bureau, the survey \u201coffers business leaders and policymakers a current assessment of the nation\u2019s economic status and plays a vital role in estimating the quarterly gross domestic product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. wholesale revenue in February 2024 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/wholesale\/pdf\/mwts\/currentwhl.pdf\">PDF<\/a>) stood at $673.7 billion, up from $658.4 billion from the previous month and $669.3 billion in February 2023, an increase of 2.3% and 0.6%, respectively.<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-0nR3uf_5y\" class=\"everviz-0nR3uf_5y\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/0nR3uf_5y\/?v=7\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Wholesale inventories are the stock of unsold goods. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/new-fba-tool-points-to-future-of-inventory-management\">Inventories<\/a> are a key component of gross domestic product changes. A high inventory count points to an economic slowdown, while a low number indicates stronger growth.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. wholesale inventories for February 2024 were $901.1 billion, slightly higher than $896.5 billion in January and down from $918.8 billion one year ago.<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-oj_BGAD_K\" class=\"everviz-oj_BGAD_K\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/oj_BGAD_K\/?v=5\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>According to the data, U.S. wholesale inventories dropped by 0.4% month over month in March 2024.<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-7mIY4u9d6\" class=\"everviz-7mIY4u9d6\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/7mIY4u9d6\/?v=6\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, as of March 2024, about 6.2 million people worked in the wholesale trade industry in the United States.<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-3QFa11VWh\" class=\"everviz-3QFa11VWh\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/3QFa11VWh\/?v=8\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wholesale inventory levels foretell overall economic activity \u2014 growth or decline.
