A recent YouGov survey (<a href=\"https:\/\/ygo-assets-websites-editorial-emea.yougov.net\/documents\/Eurotrack_USTariffs_Mar25_w.pdf\">PDF<\/a>) explores public opinion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/charts-global-consumer-views-on-tariffs\">on tariffs<\/a> across Western Europe.<\/p>\n<p>YouGov surveyed 9,455 adults in March 2025 in the U.K. (2,155), France (1,002), Germany (2,196), Denmark (999), Sweden (1,011), Spain (1,061), and Italy (1,031).<\/p>\n<p>The survey consisted of four questions, starting with, &#8220;If the U.S. were to place tariffs on E.U. goods imported to the U.S., would you support or oppose the E.U. responding by placing tariffs on American goods imported to the E.U.?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Most respondents back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.practicalecommerce.com\/qa-passport-ceo-talks-tariffs\">retaliatory tariffs<\/a>, with support highest in Denmark at 79%.<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-gx6rYMMTf\" class=\"everviz-gx6rYMMTf\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/gx6rYMMTf\/?v=8\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Next, the survey asked, &#8220;How much impact, if any, do you think that the U.S. placing tariffs on E.U. goods imported to the U.S. would have on the E.U. economy?&#8221; and &#8220;the [country&#8217;s] economy?<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-JOrEdsWXY\" class=\"everviz-JOrEdsWXY\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/JOrEdsWXY\/?v=5\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Seventy-five percent of German respondents believe tariffs will have &#8220;a lot&#8221; or &#8220;significant&#8221; impact on their national economy.<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-KufJ9-7au\" class=\"everviz-KufJ9-7au\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/KufJ9-7au\/?v=7\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The final survey question addressed fairness: &#8220;Do you think the E.U. has been fair or unfair in its trade dealings with the U.S. in recent years?<\/p>\n<div id=\"everviz-FeA8gpyGA\" class=\"everviz-FeA8gpyGA\"><script src=\"https:\/\/app.everviz.com\/inject\/FeA8gpyGA\/?v=4\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In March, YouGov asked 9,400 Europe-based adults what they thought of Trump&#8217;s tariffs. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2426,"featured_media":1551756,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","_wp_rev_ctl_limit":""},"categories":[58306],"tags":[58315],"class_list":["post-1551739","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cross-border","tag-charts",""],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.2 (Yoast SEO v25.2) -
